QPAC’s Warm Welcome
QPAC • 3m 0s
Warm Welcome was a series of events looking at what happens when communities open their hearts, homes and institutions to people from other places.
Watch what some of the people involved had to say about the importance of coming together, and having a space to dive deeper into what is presented on our stages.
Taking inspiration from the themes of the award-winning musical Come From Away, Warm Welcome incorporated music and conversation to explore the welcome practices of First Nations and multicultural communities as well as the rich role of music and food in creating safe and welcoming spaces.
The first event included beautiful musical storytelling from Yuwalaaraay, Gamilaroi and Murrawarri singer-songwriter Kelsey Iris; and a conversation about welcome practices on Country with Traditional Owner Gaja Kerry Charlton, QPAC Elder in Residence Aunty Colleen Wall and Butchulla and Kabi Kabi poet Aidan Rowlingson.
In partnership with Multicultural Australia, the second event comprised a lively Latin music performance by family outfit Cachicamo, and was followed by a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony with Mulu Fantu of Arhibu Ethiopian and Eritrean Restaurant.
